I also went with the Tokina. Tokina makes very hardy lenses with great photo quality. I have not been disapointed with theis lens at all.

I considered the SB-600, and it'll probably do most of what I need, but I went with the SB-800 just in case the extra power would ever be needed.

Has anyone tried the Singh-Ray I-Ray infrared filter?

A dedicated IR camera would be the easiest way to do it, but not sure I want that expence. :-) So far, I'm happy using infrared filters with my D100.

Minnesota's lake shore drive is a great area. It's now been two years since I first visited there and can't hardly wait to get back. Lots of great photographic opportunities!
