Wondered what all you guys out there use for converting your Raw images to JPEG.
I started out using Nikon Capture 4.4, have used Elements 4 too with the Camera Raw 3.4 plug-in, but my favourite is RawShooter Essentials (the only one that did not have to pay for!).
For me RawShooter is faster and has a better work-flow.
Any other suggestions?
Ian.

I have also used all of the above, but recently stumbled upon Adobe Lightroom beta. It has its annoyances but so far it has been the best that I have used. Right now it is also free in beta form. (It is very stable for me)

Wondered what all you guys out there use for converting your Raw images to JPEG. Any other suggestions? Before Photoshop CS came out, I saw no reason to shoot RAW. Adobe Camera RAW CS was an ephiphany and CS2 builds upon it. Now, I rarely shoot anything but RAW. No matter what the shooting conditions, with ACR, the power of layers and masks in Photoshop, and the ability to process in 48-bit workspace in Lab colour mode, the end result is precisely what I previsualized - no compromises. The worse the conditions, the greater the luxury. See www.larry-bolch.com/CP8400/www.larry-bolch.com/las-vegas/

I've also started using Rawshooter essentials, having also used Capture 4.4 and CS2. Capture One is also a good raw convertor I would highly recommend.

Well after what everyone has been saying about rawshooters, I had to give it another try. The speed is insane, it is so much faster then all the other solutions that i have seen. And it is really the best layout that I have used, but it seems to lack many advanced controls. Does it not have anymore fine tuning options like highlight and low light compression or per channel HSL control? I know it has a fill light slider for low lights, but its a pretty limited solution. I am just wondering if there are anymore advanced controls that I am missing or are they in the premium version? I really hope so I am downloading the premium now too see.
Either way I can see why you guys like it so much it is a really impressive program, I am really hoping that the premium has what i need.

For my D50 NEF shots, I use Capture 4.4 or more often RawShooter essentials 2006, supplemented with Paint Shop Pro, versions 8, 9, or X, depending on which of my computers I am using. Paint Shop Pro X and Paint Shop Pro Photo XI can open NEF files.
Neither of these programs read my D80 NEF images, but Capture NX and Paint Shop Pro Photo XI do. So obviously I use one of those.
It is a learning curve but I think I will like Capture NX and PSP Photo XI they have lots of new editing features....

Hi there, i use the Nikon NX software and i absolutely love it, it is intuitive to use for me and it presents excellent results everytime, the only thing i would say is that i needs a healing brush to make almost perfect for me, i do not use it to alter the image to much, just to give it the lift it needs and where it needs and to me the NX is priceless. I have not tried Rawshooter or Lightroom but why should i when i have a Nikon product which to me and most people will be sufficient. I do own Photoshop 7 but use it very rarely, mainly for the healing brushes or anything else out of the ordinary that may need to be changed or improved. If you can give it a go because it is really good. Thanks and keep the good photos coming. Nuno Silva.
