This lens gets a smile from me. I took it out on a walkabout today during lunch. Took photos on the mall in Washington DC and inside the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. The lens is brand new. It did great indoors, handheld, no flash and on RAW and Auto. Photos are being posted at: www.pbase.com/carlg51/smithsonian_museumsCamera was the Nikon D50.

Nice images Carl, thanks for sharing.
Do you think this zoom range is sufficient for most situations??
How does the lens look and feel??

Hi Ace I took this lens to my dog club picnic Saturday. It was very quick to focus and always found the focus. For walking around like that, I was mostly using the 24 - 56 focal length. I anticipate that is what I will also be using at dog shows. I checked out what I was shooting mostly before I bought the lens and those ranges 24 - 135 were where I was mostly shooting. And at just over $300 shipped, I thought is was a bargin. Photos of the Picnic are at: www.pbase.com/carlg51/odkc_picnic_06For my farther out stuff I have a Nikkor 70-300D and 70-200 2.8VR, and the 55-200G DX, so I have over kill on the distance stuff (for now).

Here is another photo with that lens from the Manassas National Battlefield. I did use a circular polarizing filter - it was a very sunny day. www.pbase.com/carlg51/image/66300930Check out the "previous" and "next photos on that same site for comparison with photos taken in May '06 with my kit lenses. All photos were taken with the same D50, Raw, Auto.

On my recent trip to the Samoyed Club of America Specialty Show in Post Falls, Idaho, I shot about 2000 photos with my D50. More than 1/2 of them were with this Lens, the Sigma 24-135mm. I knew from shooting candid shots at dog shows throughout the summer that most of my shots were well within the 24-135 range, that was why this lens (plus the 2.8 at 24mm) caught my attention. List price was up in the $800 range, which I guess no-one was paying. I got it for just over $300. Photos from the Samoyed National are at: www.pbase.com/carlg51/sca_2006

This is another third party lens I have been very happy with. Very good picture quality and a very useful focal range. I mostly use it with my film cameras, but it does even better on digital. Just wish it was a little wider when used with a digital SLR. :-)
