One of my big interests is taking photos at dog shows and sharing them with the Dog Show community. I have been posting photos since 2000 when I used a Sony Mavica FD-85. As digital cameras improved, I was able to take more and more photos, no shutter lag, no waiting 15 seconds to write the 1 meg file to memory.... So with todays DSLRs and VR lenses life is good. Right now I am using a D50 with a Lumix Z20 as my backup. My photos are at: www.pbase.com/carlg51/dog_showsI will be photographing and posting the Samoyed National in Post Falls Idaho, in mid-September. Older photos are on my main web site, www.severnayasamoyeds.com

Great Action shots. I sometimes get an opportunity to shoot Agility trials. I will try to post those. Also, the herding trials are action packed competition.
Great Shots. I also liked your Car Show photos. My family in California gets envolved in that also.

Well, I am back from the Samoyed National, which was held in Post Falls, Idaho. I brought my D50 and 3 lenses. I brought the 18-55 DX "kit lens"... a Nikkor 70-300 f4-5.6D ED AF, and a Sigma 24-135 f2.8-4.5. I mostly used the Sigma. The show activities were mostly outdoors. Lighting varied from Dark Gray Clouds to very bright sun. My most difficult shooting was in the very bright sun. The dogs (bright white) were easily over exposed while the rest of the colorful scene was perfect. I need to work on AE settings, Bracketing etc. I took all the equipment and my 15 inch laptop in a Tamrac Adventure 9 Backpack. That was awesome. I could have fit my Lumix Z20 for backup, but I was afraid to bring too much thru Airline Security. In hind-sight, I should have done it, it would have been fun to compare the Point and Shoot Z20 with the D50. Images are located at www.pbase.com/carlg51/sca_2006 I also went on a photo shoot across Eastern Washington State, Spokane (city), and Coeur d'Alene, ID. I will post those soon.

More thoughts .... I should have also brought my SB-800. I was also afraid to bring that and all the rechargable batteries and charger, but I think it would have been just fine.
The indoor shots of Club Baskets, the Weight Pull outdoors at night, and the Parade of Titleholders all needed more light, farther out than the on-board flash could throw.
Another good thing is data backup. I have a dvd burner on my laptop and saved 5 DVDs, plus I brought a small LaCie 80 GB external drive. I shot over 13 GBs and lost no data.
