I'd like to get some feedback from folks about polarizers. I know that they do and the value in some shooting situations but when I started to look at them I was surprised to see the vast array of them running from prices as low as $20 to close to $200.
I'm primarily a macro shooter but one of my macros is the Sigma 17-70mm macro so I use it when I do landscape or scenic shooting and that's where I see using it the most.
I've read there is some issue with polarizers and wide lenses where you might get some vignetting or banding in skies etc. and for the vignetting a thin profile filter.
This particular lens has a 72mm filter size - my other lenses use smaller sizes so I figure I can get a step down for them though they have hoods that have 72mm threads - I could just try the polarizer on the hood I guess.
Anyway I'd like to hear some suggestions on brands/models. You don't see these reviewed as much. It's probably more useful to know which ones are not up to snuff. I'm looking at the B&W, Heliopan, Nikon but would like to hear about Hoya & Tiffen experiences as well.
thanks in advance. DanD aka DJPixel

Dan:
I like Heliopan and Hoya polarizers, including the Moose polarizing filter.
If you think you may have a problem with vignetting, you can get a 77mm filter and use a step ring, or as you mentioned a thin polarizer.
Vignetting used to be common, but was pretty much eliminated, that is until some of the new DX lenses became coming out. I've noticed some of them have brought back vignetting.
