I needed a nice case that I could carry-on the plane for my trip from Virginia to the Samoyed National in Post Falls, Idaho. I chose the Tamrac Adventure 9 Backpack. It safely held my D50 which I kept the 18-55 kit lens for packing, then had a place for the Sigma 24-135mm, and a Nikkor 70-300 D. I took 15 GB of SD Memory cards, mostly 2 GB cards with several 1 GB, that turned out to be over kill. I took 4 batteries, also over-kill. I did not take my SB800, which turned out to be a big mistake, and I had room for it.... The Backpack has a nice seperate padded compartment for my Laptop, which fit perfectly (a 15 inch screen). I took a pocket external hard drive, 3 filters (cirular polarizing filters, which were not needed in original plastic cases) and pens, the D50 manual, and my Garmin Palm GPS and all the various AC power adapters. With all this stuff, the backpack fit under the seat in front of me on the Airbus from Dulles Airport to Denver. But I had to stowe in the upper bin on the 737 from Denver to Spokane. The backpack had plenty of foam padding for lenses, camera and computer, and was very handy to have everything in one place. If I learned anything it is don't rely on the on-board flash for an important photo shoot. It is nice, but very limited. I highly recommend the Tamrac Adventure series backpacks, size to carry whatever you need for a photo shoot.
