In the beginning (I was 8 years old) I got a present from grandma: Kodak boxcamera. And I LOVED IT. Mostly I just make street pictures with it. Just people on the street. Now many (MANY!) years later I still love to take pics in the street.
I used the Kodax a very long time. Then when I was 12 I used a Practica SLR from my mom. For a 12 years old a very nice camera and a very suitable to learn things like shutterspeed, aperture, DOS and ISO (in those day it was DIN).
Two years later my dad buy some off those Nikon camera’s: Nikkormat Ftn. Solid as a rock and it’s still working!
When my father don’t use his camera: yes I had permission to experienced the first Nikon feeling. Some years when I left the house I need my own camera. And it was a Nikon Fm. My most favourite camera.
In those days I was a software developer and making money like water on a good Dutch rainy day. When you have money? Spend it! I did: Nikon F2AS
What a tank! What a system! No I didn’t make better pictures with the F2AS then with that lovely FM.
And when I made a hike in the mountains: still that FM was my mate!
But remember the F2 is maybe the biggest milestone in 35mm camera’s. Sure the F was a revolutionary camera. But the F2 was a real system with solutions for ANY photo problem.
And when you (I DID!) add a motor drive under your F2? You don’t have a camera anymore. It was a weapon! A beast!
For travelling this F2AS was to heavy for me but for “working” with your camera it was my choice. I did a lot of macro;s, portraits and events with it.
But after 15 years the camera was stolen. Otherwise? My F2AS was still my beast!
Now I got a D70 and a D2H. But I don’t think that over 25 years I write a enthusiastic story on a Nikon board about my D2H. I think that will be again that old F2 song!
Still mis it!
