very interesting behavior of D70s « Thread Started on Oct 13, 2006, 4:32pm »
Hi! I have a very interesting problem on D70s. If someone have any suggestion, please help. 1-When QUAL mode is RAW+JPEG, after take photo, there are 2 JPEG BASIC on CF Card.!!! Both less than 1MB and same size. There are No NEF. (checking on PC) 2-When D70s connected to PC (USB connection on P mode), again RAW+JPEG mode and now taking photo, this time there are 2 same size NEF file appear in the D70s Folder on PC. 3-Now, turning off D70s and turning on again. and open D70s folder on PC; surprise; there are 2 same size JPEG file again. (which they were 2 NEF file before !?)
There are no any problem on camera other than this (NEF only is OK, JPEG only is OK in all quality)

I've tried the same thing as you. If I use my USB CF Card reader to view my data files, I will see a NEF and a JPEG file on my computer.
I suspect that you may have taken two pictures and your software is allowing you to only see the NEF or the JPEG depending on which program you are using.
A normal image viewer program would not know how to read a NEF file, so it might not appear in the file listing.
A portion of the Nikon Capture software only sees the NEF files for adjusting the gamma correction curves, so it will not see the JPEG files.
The next time that this happens, try to view the files from the Windows Explorer if you are using a Microsoft Windows operating system.
